CHURCH NEWS –Sept 26
Holy Trinity’s web address ishttp://holytrinityyorkton.blogspot.ca/

THOUGHTS & SMILES:
I like the way this Dad thinks.
A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his father as to when they could discuss his use
of the car.
His father said he'd make a deal with his son, "You bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your
Bible a little, and get your hair cut. Then we'll talk about the car."
The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he'd settle for the offer, and they agreed on it.
After about six weeks his father said, "Son, you've brought your grades up and I've observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I'm disappointed you haven't had your hair cut."
The boy said, "You know, Dad, I've been thinking about that, and I've noticed in my studies of the Bible that:  Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, and there's even strong
evidence that Jesus had long hair."
(You're going to love the Dad's reply!)
"Did you also notice they all walked everywhere they went?"

 CHURCH NEWS –Sept 12
Holy Trinity’s web address ishttp://holytrinityyorkton.blogspot.ca/

THOUGHTS & SMILES:
1 HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY?  (written by kids)
-You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming. -- Alan, age 10
-No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with. -- Kristen, age 10
2. WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.. -- Camille, age 10
3. HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids. -- Derrick, age 8
4. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON? Both don't want any more kids. -- Lori, age 8
5. WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?
-Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough. -- Lynnette, age 8 (isn't she a treasure)
-On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date. -- Martin, age 10
6. WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?
-When they're rich. -- Pam, age 7 (Love her )
-The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that. - - Curt, age 7
-The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do-Howard, age 8
7. IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?
It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them. -- Anita, age 9 (bless you child)
8. HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?
There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there? -- Kelvin, age 8
9. HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a dump truck.-- Ricky, age 10

Engaging Volunteers in Ministry

Sent on behalf of Bishop Rob:
Resources for Mission is producing its first ever webinars, (on-line teaching units) for parish and diocesan leaders.  The series:  Engaging Volunteers in Ministry: A Deeper View of Stewardship consists of three sessions-- September 17th, 24th and October 1st

Many have asked over the years for some good stewardship education resources and this series focuses on the stewardship of  peoples' time and talents in church settings.  We can waste so much time of those in ministry, and can so easily turn people off or burn people out in the parish and diocesan setting.  And then they leave, or fade away.

Marilyn MacKenzie, a well-known Canadian workshop presenter and writer in the field of volunteer engagement, will join Suzanne Lawson from the national church office in presenting these webinars.  They have been doing workshops on this topic for several years in nearby dioceses, and this is a way to share insights with many more people.

Please try to share this news with as many people as you can.  Information can be found at http://news.anglican.ca/news/stories/2629.

The best way for people to be involved is if they watch the webinars in a small group together and then spend some time afterwards talking about what they have learned. But it's also designed, of course, for people to watch on their own and then build a team to apply that knowledge later in their church setting.

Thanks for sharing this wherever you can...
+ Rob Hardwick

 THOUGHTS & SMILES:
Panting and perspiring, two men on a tandem bicycle at last got to the top of a steep hill.
“That was certainly a hard pedal to get up here,” said the man in front. “It sure was,” replied the second man, “and if I hadn’t kept the brake on, we would have slid down the hill backwards!”

After the service a young couple asked the minister about joining the church. The minister hadn’t met the husband before and asked “What church are you transferring from?”
A bemused slightly pained look came over the young man’s face. “I am transferring from the Municipal Golf Course.” he said.
