Diocesan Refugee Fund
Diocesan Council agreed in its March Meeting to sponsor five family members of Marleen Abbo, wife of Safaa Mousa, whom we sponsored in honour PWRDF50 in December 2011. Marleen's family had to flee the Mosul area when ISIS took over the city and surrounding area. Last August they fled to Turkey where they had friends. The family members her father Saeed (retired) her brother Amjad, age 24, her sister-in-law Rawan, age 22, and their children Sarita, age 3 1/2, and Simon, age 2. UNHCR has recognized them as genuine refugees. The Diocese needs to raise approximately $ 20,000 in addition to the resources we have to support the family for one year. Parishioners may make a one-time donation through their home parishes (envelopes are on the back bookcase) for forwarding to Diocesan Refugee Fund or send their cheques directly to the Diocese of Qu'Appelle (Memo: Refugee Fund), c/o Anglican Diocese of Qu'Appelle, 1501 College Avenue, Regina, S4P 1B8.
Let’s make this a success!
PWRDF Providing Relief after Nepal Earthquake
PWRDF has announced an initial grant of $20,000 in relief funds for Nepal after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake devastated the region between Kathmandu and Pokhara on Saturday. To date, over 3700 people are known to have died in the quake and 6500 have been injured as buildings in both cities and the towns and villages in between were damaged or destroyed. PWRDF is responding through the ACT Alliance. ACT members with offices in Kathmandu began providing immediate relief– food, water, shelter and medical supplies– within hours of the quake, and are currently determining what the greatest needs are as they coordinate their response. PWRDF will continue to be in contact with ACT to determine the need for support, and will react accordingly.

Loving God, we come to you trusting in your mercy and knowing that your steadfast love endures forever. Look with mercy on those who are harmed or displaced. Give them strength to meet the days ahead, your peace which passes all understanding and new hope in the resurrection. Move in those who are able to give aid, that we may be your hands and heart on earth. Be with all who offer assistance, may your Spirit uphold them. As you have made water a sign of your kingdom, and of cleansing and rebirth, grant your people vision to see a new life on the other side of disaster.
To you be given all honour and praise, through Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord. Amen
